The final two years in Upper School concentrate on increasing clarity of thought and accuracy in all aspects of the children’s education. Pupils are encouraged to develop independent research skills aimed at enhancing their learning processes.
Further development and learning take place in all subject areas. Mathematical calculation and problem solving techniques are taken to a higher level and practical maths skills are investigated in greater depth. Further practice in mental arithmetic enables children to calculate questions with greater speed – an important consideration when they are sitting Entrance Examinations.
The English curriculum concentrates on further developing children’s style and imagination in writing and the interpretation and understanding of the written word. The importance of spelling, language and grammar is never overlooked and children are encouraged to practise self expression and communication skills through a weekly Speech and Drama lesson.
The Science and Design and Technology syllabuses develop opportunities for practical experiments using a variety of apparatus. Pupils are taught the importance of planning, recording, constructing, testing and evaluating as a means
to solving problems.
History, Geography, French, Religious Education, Information and Communication Technology, Music, Art and Physical Education complete the curriculum – making a well-balanced and varied timetable which is enjoyed by all pupils.
A well-stocked library is available to all pupils for further reading, reference and research.
